OBEETEE has announced its first permanent London showroom at Chelsea Harbour Design Centre launching during London Design Week, signalling an important step forward for the prestigious 105-year-old brand.

Established in 1920 under British ownership, OBEETEE was built on hand-loomed rugs woven in northern India, grounded in precision, patience and material intelligence. A century on, its return to the UK marks a considered homecoming, reintroducing the brand to the market where its story first began.

The name OBEETEE itself carries the legacy of its founders, derived from the initials of its British promoters – including Oakley, Bowden and Tayler – whose vision laid the foundation for a cross-continental enterprise rooted in Indian craftsmanship and global design exchange.

The Chelsea Harbour showroom will position rugs as architectural elements rather than decorative afterthoughts. Collections will explore scale, texture and restraint, with designs conceived for modern living, expansive spaces and international hospitality projects. The recent Silk Road collection will sit among these, referencing historic routes of exchange through layered pattern and nuanced tone. Across the showroom, traditional weaving techniques will be reinterpreted with a modern hand, resulting in rugs that feel confident, relevant and clearly attuned to contemporary interiors relevant to a global audience.

As the brand begins to build a presence in the UK, they have begun working with Luke Irwin, a long-time friend of the brand to feature his work in the store windows and explore future collaboration opportunities, showcasing OBEETEE to his captivated audience.

Created as a resource for architects and interior designers, the showroom will offer a bespoke design, custom palettes and material development, supporting a growing demand for rugs with both provenance and a forward-looking sensibility.

Launching during London Design Week, the opening positions OBEETEE within the centre of the global design conversation. Long-standing commitments to responsible production, artisan livelihoods and education continue to shape the brand’s future, reinforcing craftsmanship as a living, evolving practice.

With its arrival at Chelsea Harbour Design Centre, OBEETEE brings its heritage into a contemporary setting, establishing London as a platform for the next phase of its established design story and a celebration of its storied past.

As part of its broader international growth strategy, the London showroom marks a significant milestone in OBEETEE’s expanding global footprint, reinforcing its position across key design capitals including India, the Middle East, Europe and the United States. The brand continues to see growing demand across residential, hospitality and large-scale architectural projects, with bespoke and contract segments contributing significantly to its international business. The London presence is expected to further strengthen relationships with global design studios and developers while supporting long-term revenue growth across both established and emerging markets.

Founded under British ownership and built through Indian craftsmanship, OBEETEE’s evolution over the past century reflects a unique cross-cultural design narrative – one shaped by heritage, independence and global relevance. Its return to London is not merely a commercial expansion but a meaningful re-engagement with the geography that first shaped its identity, now reinterpreted through a distinctly contemporary, India-rooted lens.

Aligned with its international expansion narrative, OBEETEE will also continue to strengthen visibility in India and other key markets, ensuring a cohesive global approach that reflects its legacy and its forward-looking growth strategy.
