Earliest Travel Memory: The eight-hour drive from my family home in New York to the Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia on Good Friday. I was squeezed between my three brothers in the back of my parents’ Estate. Never was there more pinching and hair pulling on any car journey.
Travel Moment I Wish I Could Relive: I have two. The first is sitting in the Rwandan jungle just a stone’s throw from Akarevuro, the 400-pound alpha male of the 29-member Kwitonda gorilla family.
Dream Holiday Destination: Climbing to the top of ‘Big Daddy’, the highest sand dune in the world at the edge of Dead Vlei, Namibia. The austere beauty of the shapes and colours of the dunes and salt flats below are indescribably magnificent.
Desert Island Dish: Oscietra caviar to start, followed by grilled lobster and sweet white corn on the cob from the Hamptons.
Best Piece Of Advice: Always pack less than you think you need, and make sure you take the time to see and experience the sights rather than just photographing them.
Alternative Career: A safari pioneer.
Something You Don’t Know About Me: I was unspeakably homesick as a child and NEVER wanted to travel.
