Freddie from the Dovetail team recently spent a long weekend in New York City to tryout the new suite experiences available at The Chatwal in partnership with LOCALIKE New York.
Aftera little sojourn in Keflavik we flew into JFK on a purple WOW Airplane. TheIcelandic airline, which has launched a series of new flight routes from Londonto New York, whisked us across the Atlantic in no time. Thanks to WOW’swelcoming and relaxed atmosphere nine hours in the sky quite literally flew by.Arriving close to midnight we were picked up by the affable Benny and whiskedoff to The Chatwal, New York, a luxury boutique hotel in the heart ofManhattan.
Inthe morning we woke up late and tucked into brunch at the Lambs Club. Theart-deco inspired restaurant celebrates world-renowned chef, Geoffrey Zakarian’smodern approach to classic American cuisine. As we were serenaded by athree-piece jazz band, the avocados and disjointed melodies produced the mostsophisticated meal of my life.
Wethen hopped on the subway to the Brooklyn Grange Long Island City, a rooftopfarm in Queens. They build green spaces and promote sustainable living andlocal ecology through food, education and events. LOCALIKE had curated thishorticultural experience inspired by the green flourishes of the Garden Suiteat The Chatwal. We enjoyed a whistle stop tour of the project as volunteerstended to their patches and families enjoyed picnics.
Aftera quick trip to Pier 17 we road bicycles around the Manhattan waterfront andworked up quite the appetite under the powerful New York sun. Luckily the OpryCity Stage, home of country music, was on hand to provide a hearty dinner andplenty of Jonny Cash.
Aspart of the Heritage Suite experience we explored the Theater District throughthe eyes of art historian Louis Mazarri from Context tours. Louis wasincredibly insightful and engaging about the rich history of the art decobuildings dotted around Broadway. We returned to The Chatwal and threw on ourglad rags for a Broadway show. We strolled across the street to the HudsonTheatre to see Head Over Heels, a gender bending musical inspired by the musicof The Go Go’s. The production was a lot of fun, a zippy combo of bawdyShakespeare and Belinda Carlisle.
Fromthe Manhattan Suite of The Chatwal guests may climb the winding staircase andenjoy panoramic views of the iconic skyline. LOCALIKE invited us to see thatview from a different perspective sailing on the East, Harlem and Hudsonwaterways with Tribeca Sailing. Perfect Picnic provided a delicious charcuterieplatter on board. We looped around lady liberty and cruised under the BrooklynBridge before making our way back to the harbour.
Weexplored the Museum of Modern Art and revered iconic masterpieces from thelikes of Picasso and Van Gogh. We enjoyed one last meal at The Lamb’s clubbefore departing. I had the most delectably tender sirloin with a side of macand cheese.
Thenew suite experiences available at The Chatwal in collaboration with LOCALIKENew York enabled us to immerse ourselves in the city like a local. We enjoyed atruly intimate experience far removed from the tourist hotspots.
